Rev. Dr. Ernest G.B. Foote
Born in 1920, Foote lived on Weaver’s Mountain with his parents and siblings. He attended Barney’s River Station School and Stellarton High School. He attended Acadia University and graduated with a BA. He was also awarded with an Honorary Doctorate in Civil Law.
The Rev. Dr. Ernest G.B. Foote was a native of Nova Scotia, a graduate of Presbyterian College in Montreal, and a minister across various pastoral charges until 1941 when he joined the Chaplaincy of the Royal Canadian Navy. After several appointments in Canada, he was sent overseas and became Command Chaplain, a position held until the end of the war. Returning to Canada in 1945, he became Chaplain-of-the-Fleet and served on destroyers in the Far East throughout the Korean conflict. Dr. Foote was a participant in the officializing of the Canadian Flag Ceremony on Parliament Hill where he delivered the prayers of Dedication and Supplication. For his great service, he was made an officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. He reached the pinnacle of his military career in 1962, when he was appointed as the Chaplain-General of the Canadian Armed Forces until his retirement in 1965. The Rev. Dr. Foote died in 1980.
